To align with the Guangdong Provincial Government's initiatives to revitalize shipbuilding assets and boost the marine economy, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and Guangdong Port & Shipping Group signed an agreement on May 18 for a joint venture at the Xiaohu Island Shipbuilding Base. The ceremony took place at the Guangdong Port & Shipping Tower.

Under the deal, the two companies will form a specialized shipbuilding joint venture with registered capital of 588 million yuan and combined asset contributions of roughly 1.4 billion yuan. The venture will concentrate on developing and building small and medium-sized high-end intelligent specialized vessels, including ocean-going intelligent transport ships and aluminum alloy craft. Construction is slated to begin in the latter half of 2026, with an anticipated annual output exceeding 5 billion yuan once operational.
