On April 15, the 1,600-ton gantry crane at Dock No. 1 in the western facility of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) was delivered for operation 15 days ahead of schedule. The commissioning represents a major upgrade in the company's hoisting capabilities and will provide critical equipment support for the efficient production of follow-up orders, including 271,000-cubic-meter ultra-large LNG carriers and mega-container vessels.
The project, undertaken by CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute as the general contractor, broke ground on August 5, 2025. It was relocated to the western plant for assembly on January 2, 2026, completed its main girder lifting on February 11, and was handed over on April 15. With a construction period of just over eight months, the project has set a new national benchmark for large gantry crane construction timelines.
